Signal Integrity Challenges

SI necessitates broadband analysis from DC up to multi-GHz frequencies.

At those high-frequencies, full-wave electromagnetic effects are critical in effecting phase and propagation.

Crosstalk and through-transmission prediction require a high-dynamic range simulation capability, and global coupling, large return paths, and novel cust-cutting system designs necessitate large-scale 3D electromagnetic simulation and speeds that can enable multiple design iterations.

 

 

Fundamental Solutions Needed

SI challenges necessitate critical requirements in underlying design-enabling field solvers. In particular, the Maxwell's equation solution needs to be broadband, spanning the DC to multi-GHz frequency range with a single, unswitched solver.

The solution needs to be full-wave and truly three-dimensional, to account for complex mode-types and edge-coupling effects. The methodology needs to solve large-scale problems in fast simulation times in order to reduce design cycles and to keep the design-cycle time short. High-dynamic range requirements imply that speed and scale enhancements cannot come at the cost of accuracy.
